Cesme

Aegean Wonder

Turkish coastal town of Cesme is located on the Aegean coast towards the west of Izmir. It is located 89 km from Izmir in Turkey and very close to the Greek island of Chios. Surrounded by crystal blue seas, Cesme is one of the most magnificent stretches in Turkey and a popular holiday resort town. Studded with fig and gum trees and lush green fields of aniseed and golden sand beaches, Cesme’s unspoilt beach promenades offer solitude and peace. It is the third best surfing resort in the world.

Cesme literally translates to the fountain since it gathers its waters from several sources. Moreover, Cesme is an ideal location for beginners to try their hand at windsurfing, kiteboarding and thermal baths. It attracts all types of surfers – windsurfers, kite surfers and surf surfers. Extending into the Aegean sea, Cesme is all about the waters and has plenty of beaches. It also offers a stunning view of the mountains and the sea.

Once inhabited by the Greeks, this town is considerably unique to other Turkish resort towns, particularly due to the Greek architecture and motifs. Visible from the Aegean sea, the Genoese Fortress is a fine example of 16th-century Ottoman architecture overlooking the town of Cesme. A neat palm-lined promenade near this fort is an excellent location to spend some time while capturing the beautiful sea nearby. Cesme is an excellent alternative to Bodrum owing to the numerous beaches, fantastic nightlife and luxurious stays in the town! It is also an excellent getaway from the historical town of Alacati, 8 kms from the city.
