Bakuriani

Winter Playground

Within the Borjomi region of Georgia, Bakuriani is one of the two main ski resorts that beckons travelers with its year-round charm. This town was established as a health resort in the late 19th century during the Russian Empire, and some of its architecture reflects this period. Known for its rustic mountain-village vibe and ski lifts, Bakuriani has become a popular getaway for both local and international tourists.

Bakuriani is a paradise for winter sports enthusiasts. With an elevation of 1,700 meters above sea level, the town experiences abundant snowfall during the winter months, transforming it into a skiing and snowboarding haven. The Didveli and Kokhta-Gora ski resorts offer well-groomed slopes for all skill levels, from beginners to seasoned pros.

One of Bakuriani’s most intriguing features is its natural hot springs. The Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park, located nearby, is famous for its mineral-rich thermal springs, believed to have therapeutic properties. Visitors can indulge in a relaxing soak in the warm, healing waters while enjoying the tranquil beauty of the surrounding forested landscapes. These springs have attracted wellness seekers for centuries, offering a perfect balance to the adrenaline rush of the ski slopes.

Bakuriani isn’t just a winter destination. In the warmer months, the town comes alive with lush greenery and vibrant landscapes. The surrounding area offers hiking and horseback riding trails, making it a superb spot for nature lovers. The Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park, Georgia’s largest protected area, is home to diverse flora and fauna, providing a fantastic setting for outdoor exploration. Birdwatching, camping, and picnicking are popular activities during the summer.
